I've been putting off getting the potatoes in the ground for a various reasons. Initially I was waiting on them sprouting shoots (there's probably a name for that). It seemed to take an age for the potatoes to get going but I think they are now good to go.
The plan was to get them in last weekend, however that was rained off. This weekend I have the same problem,. It has rained almost constantly all of Saturday. While this is great for the garden in general, I want to get the spuds in.
Weather permitting, my planting will be done tomorrow as the forecast is for much drier and warmer weather.
The variety is Vivaldi -- apparently the potatoes are lower in calories compared to others and are known as the 'weight watcher’s potato'. They have a yellow skin, with pale yellow flesh and a creamy taste. Right now they look like brown pebbles!
I didn't actually select the potatoes for their dieting abilities as I a far from calorie conscious. I was told they are quite simple to grow, which I see as a plus point, this being my first attempt at tatties (as we Scots call them).
Below is their egg-box nursery, where I have been bringing them on for a few weeks.
The box bottom right is a different variety -- Aura. I was given a few spares from a friend who purchased them from Carrolls' Heritage Potatoes.
